Gran isla europea del océano
Glacial Artico. Clima riguroso, con veranos frescos e inviernos
muy fríos; suelo quebrado, poco fértil y abundante
en volcanes y géiseres. El principal recurso económico
es la pesca y las industrias derivadas de la misma. La agricultura
está muy limitada por el clima y la naturaleza del suelo
(forrajes, patatas, remolacha). Abundan especialmente las reses
ovinas. Elaboración de aluminio, construcciones navales,
tejidos, etc. El país se rige por la Constitución
de 1944, que prevé un Presidente de la República:
, elegido cada 4 años y un Parlamento (Althing), dividido
en dos Cámaras (alta y baja).
Iceland
It is a great
European island in the Glacial Arctic Ocean. It has a rigorous
climate with cool summers and winters; the soil is cracked, fertility
is very low and volcanoes and geysers abound. The main economic
resource is fishing and industries arising from it. Agriculture
is limited by the climate and the nature of the soil (fodder,
potatoes, sugar beet). Mutton is especially abundant. The country
produces aluminum, naval construction, fabrics, etc. The country
is governed by the Constitution of 1944, which provides a President
of the Republic, who is elected every four years and a Parliament
(Althing), divided into two chambers (high and low).
